Fall 2010 CHICAGO ADULT ROWING CAMPS You've never rowed, but you'd love to try it. Sign up for our Learn-to-Row evening camps. This is an ideal program for those looking for a low-impact, cardiovascular team sport. You’ll have fun learning the basics of the sport and improve your overall fitness level. The Chicago Rowing Foundation offers a completely beginner-based rowing program for adults. You will learn the essentials of sweep rowing (one oar per person) with training on land on rowing machines and on the water in boats on the Chicago River. The focus is on basic rowing skills and terms, with an emphasis on learning how to row as a crew of 8. The camp is led by the LPJ Chicago coaching staff, directed by Head Coach Mike Wallin. All coaches are former collegiate athletes, including national champions and former national team members.
WHEN: August 28th - November 6th: Wednesdays 6:15- 7:30pm, and Saturdays 9:15 - 11:00am. COST: $250.00 LOCATION: The Frances K. Mennone and Bruce H. Smith floating boathouse in the “back” (quiet) channel of the Chicago River at North Avenue and Kingsbury St. (enter from the Old Navy parking lot, but do not park there..they tow." WHAT TO BRING: Typical athletic gear is all that is required, as long as it is not too baggy. (Baggy clothing can get caught in the movable seats of both the boats and the rowing machines). Please wear gym shoes, not sandals. Bring a water bottle (one quart at least). SAFETY INFORMATION: We are serious about safety and strictly adhere to the safety regulations established by our sport’s governing body, the US Rowing Association. We row rain or shine as long as there is no danger of lightning. If storms do occur the camp can easily move indoors for continued training on rowing machines.
